Use The Job Boards Like A
Pro
Big name job boards
like Monster, Dice, CareerBuilder, HotJobs, and YahooJobs
have been around for some time, but what about job boards
focused specifically on health care? Are there many out
there?
Before exploring that
question, you may want to ask yourself whether your résumé
is ready for such job boards. Running through this quick
checklist may help you decide whether there isn’t something
more you can add to your personal marketing
piece:
o
Successfully
proofread document for grammatical and spelling errors, syntax
issues, and missing data?
o
Included
unique qualities about your career history?
o
Provided a
comprehensive overview of your skills and
abilities?
o
Formatted
your document to create a pleasing, yet concise,
layout?
o
Ensured the
document contains up-to-date terminology and key industry
terms?
If you can answer yes
to all these items, then you can safely begin considering
job boards. To answer the above question, there are many job
boards that target the health care industry. Posting a
resume on any of these sites can be a lengthy process thanks
to the in-depth questions that most job boards ask about
your career history. This is where keywords become so
important.
Large employers often make use of database systems that weed
out prospective candidates based upon the percentage of
keywords present in their resumes. For any given job, there
could be thousands of applicants. Using a scan system allows
employers to narrow down this pool while still guaranteeing
quality individuals.
Before you panic, know that no single candidate satisfies
100% of desired keywords. For that reason, most employers
only check for 85 to 95% satisfaction. However, that does
not lessen the importance of keywords to the resume. You
must ensure that you not only have included keywords but
also that they are integrated into the document’s content
without affecting readability.
Health care
professionals must be especially careful with keywords as
there are a considerable number relevant to any given
healthcare profession. If you’re unsure of what keywords to
include, job postings are a great place to begin. Comparing
overlapping requirements within similar job postings can
provide you with valuable insight into industry
expectations.
Consider that it can
take anywhere from 15 minutes to hours filling out online
job profiles. Given such an investment of time, it pays to
make sure you’re placing yourself in the strongest markets
for health care-related positions. The following job boards
can help you narrow down some of this
process:
HealthECareer /
Medhunters
After a recent
merger, HealthECareers and Medhunters merged to provide a
considerable database for health care administration,
operations, allied health, biotechnology, dental, nursing,
pharmaceutical, and physician and doctor
specialties.
MD
Jobsite
MD Jobsite offers a
number of postings catered specifically to physicians,
though it also contains listings for physician assistants
(PAs), certified registered nurses (CRNAs), and nurse
practitioners (NPs).
Medzilla
Medzilla primarily
services individuals within the pharmaceutical, biotech, and
science sectors of health care.
PracticeLink
PracticeLink provides
opportunities for the physician market with additional
options to upload CVs and search additional clinical roles
for nursing, allied health, or administrative non-clinical
positions. The site also does not allow recruiting firms
access, only direct employers (hospitals, medical clinics,
practices, etc.)
ICUNursingJobs
This is a community
site that supports critical nurses and their employers. They
focus exclusively on critical care nurses and are designed
to meet those unique needs.
MDSearch
A premier job board
for physician, MDSearch offers thousands of positions across
every medical specialty.
RNSearch
RNSearch is the
premier job board for nursing careers. The focus is
hospital-based and specialty nursing with access to nurse
recruiters, agencies, and health care facilities.
TherapyJobs

career center for therapy providers, TherapyJobs connects
candidates with therapy resources to manage their careers as
well as access to top-quality therapy job postings for
physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy
(including audiology).
MedReps
New to the healthcare
job board community, MedReps specializes in medical and
pharmaceutical sales, sales management, and marketing
jobs.
These are only some of the many job boards available to you
as an employment candidate. Other include: HealthCareerWeb,
HealthCareers,
HealthJobUSA,
and MedicalWorkers.
Remember: the job
board is only one of the many ways in which to increase your
job search results. Alone, it could take as much as six
months before you achieve desired results. Given the current
economy, this process could take even longer. Utilizing
recruiters, networking events, and opportunities to raise
attention toward yourself in the field can have a dramatic
impact on this timeframe.
While not currently
available for the health care-specific boards, you also may
want to employ the time-saving efforts of automated résumé
posters like MyJobHunter, ResumeMailMan, or
ResumeRabbit.
These services will post your résumé and cover letter across
all of the top job boards, many of which include health
care-related postings.
